Season 14 feels much better when you stop treating every boss run like a lottery ticket. A steady Paladin, a clear loot target, and a stash of Diablo 4 Items give you more control over each session, especially when Greater Lair Keys are limited and Season 15 is close.

What Makes Greater Lair Key Farming Worth Your Time

Greater Keys are your route into the higher-value boss chests. You don't need to force every difficult fight the moment a key drops.

Farm the content your character clears cleanly, then spend materials where the loot pool actually helps.

1 Build Your Key Loop Around Initiate Bosses

This route suits players who want reliable progress without turning every run into a stressful test.

Your first job is simple: keep regular Lair Keys moving into Greater Key rewards.

Focus on these sources.

• Collect regular Lair Keys from Helltides, War Plans, World Bosses, Legion Events, and Tree of Whispers caches.

• Defeat Varshan, Grigoire, Beast in the Ice, Lord Zir, or Urivar when your clear time is comfortable.

• Open the Hoard chest after each kill, since that is where the key material and Stygian Stones matter.

A quick, repeatable route beats a slow route with better-looking rewards. If you're dying, resetting skills, or spending ages in town, the loop isn't ready yet.

2 Spend Greater Keys With a Real Loot Plan

This is for players who already know which upgrade would change their build. Don't spend a Greater Key just because one is sitting in your inventory.

Pick a target before entering the lair.

• Farm Duriel or Andariel when your Paladin needs chase Uniques or broader endgame upgrades.

• Choose Harbinger of Hatred when its drop pool fits your weapon, jewellery, or class-specific goal.

• Use Stygian Stones to swap unwanted material into the Greater Key you actually need.

One focused boss target makes farming feel less random. It also stops you from burning good materials on rewards that can't improve your current setup.

3 Keep the Paladin Stable Before Pushing Higher Torment

Hammerdin remains the easy recommendation for most Season 14 players. Blessed Hammer clears packs well while a shield and defensive auras give you room to recover.

Start with the parts that keep the build alive.

• Use Blessed Hammer as your main damage tool and stay close enough for its orbit to connect.

• Run Defiance Aura for armour and resistance support during heavy Torment pressure.

• Keep Rally and Aegis ready for movement, recovery, and dangerous boss phases.

• Add Fanaticism Aura or Holy Light Aura once your cooldowns, resource flow, and defences feel settled.

You'll notice boss fights expose weak positioning fast. Test the build in Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, the Pit, and Initiate lairs before risking Greater Keys.

Which Route Should You Choose Before Season 15

Need keys? Stay with Initiate bosses. Need one major upgrade? Target the right Greater boss. Need a dependable Paladin? Start Hammerdin, then tune auras later. Before September 15, you can also browse Diablo IV Items for pieces that support your chosen route, rather than chasing gear with no place in the build.
